Large loan based on overseas investment income
The Requirement
Another mortgage broker asked us if we could arrange a large residential mortgage based on overseas investment income. The buyer of the property traded in overseas private company equities and his income was formed of equity sales that were paid to him via an offshore trust.
Even for private banks, this income structure was a challenge to assess as the private equity shares weren’t listed on any of the world’s stock exchanges and were, for mortgage purposes, very difficult to verify.
The Solution
We engaged with a number of bankers and credit experts from the UK’s lending private banks and found synergy with a senior private banker who was keen to build a successful banking relationship with our client.
This was a convoluted process that involved the work of the private banker, the bank’s credit team, the client, his accountant and one of our specialist lending advisors…. but it resulted in the successful provision of a loan of the required size, secured over the client’s two UK properties.
